Karigar

A Private AI Workshop

Karigar is an AI application for the Mac. It runs Hix — its AI model — entirely on your own machine. Your conversations are written to an encrypted store on your Mac and are never uploaded anywhere.

Downloads are not open yet. Karigar is being signed and notarised with Apple so that macOS can verify it before it runs. We would rather wait for that than ask you to bypass your Mac's security.

How it works

The model runs on your Mac, not on a server

Most AI apps send what you type to a company's servers. Karigar does not. It downloads Hix once, then does all its thinking locally.

sutrar.com You download the Karigar app from this website.
models.sutrar.com Karigar fetches the Hix model once, and checks it is intact.
Your Mac Hix runs locally. Chats are encrypted and stay on the device.

After the model is downloaded, Karigar keeps working with the internet switched off entirely.

Privacy

Nothing you type leaves your Mac

  • No cloud AI. Hix runs on your machine. Your prompts are never sent to us, to OpenAI, to Google, or to anyone else.
  • No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to create.
  • No conversation database. Your chats are encrypted on your own disk, not stored on a server.
  • No prompt telemetry. Karigar does not report what you ask it, or when.

The one time Karigar uses the network is to download the app and the Hix model. What that involves →

Requirements

What your Mac needs

Hix is a large model. These are the requirements Karigar has actually been tested against — the app checks your Mac and tells you before downloading anything.

  • ChipApple Silicon (M-series). Intel Macs are not supported.
  • Memory24 GB or more.
  • macOSmacOS 13 or later.
  • Free disk spaceEnough for the Hix model and room to work — roughly 19 GB.

Hix needs about 23 GB of memory while it is answering. On a Mac with less, it would still run, but so slowly that it would not be worth using — so Karigar declines rather than pretending.
